Equipment

CNC machining and manufacturing typically involves the use of a variety of different machine tools, including:

  • Lathes: Lathes are used to shape cylindrical parts by rotating the material and cutting it with a stationary cutting tool.
  • Milling machines: Milling machines are used to shape flat and irregularly shaped parts by cutting away material with a rotating cutting tool.
  • Grinding machines: Grinding machines are used to remove material from the surface of a workpiece using an abrasive wheel.
  • EDM machines (electrical discharge machining): EDM machines use a high-voltage electrical current to create sparks that remove material from the workpiece.
  • Laser cutting machines: Laser cutting machines use a high-energy laser beam to cut through materials.

In addition to these machine tools, CNC manufacturing also often involves the use of various auxiliary equipment, such as tooling (cutting tools, dies, molds, etc.), workholding devices (jigs, fixtures, etc.), and inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
